Safe Zone is a symbol of the University of California, Irvine ’s commitment to diversity and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community on campus. Open to any campus affiliate, the program trains individuals to identify as Allies that are informed, supportive, and affirming of the LGBTQA community at UC Irvine. Safe Zone creates a more welcoming campus climate for LGBTQ and Ally faculty, staff, and students. Sponsored by the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Resource Center, the program fosters a community network that embraces sexual and gender diversity.
Current Safe Zone Workshop Sessions
We are very excited to announce the launch of our revamped Safe Zone program! Safe Zone is an interactive and comprehensive workshop to provide education about the LGBTQ+ identities and terminology, the experiences of the LGBTQ+ community, and provide some tools to begin and/or continue your practice of allyship! This workshop is to help provide you with the basic tool kit for your LGBTQ+ allyship practice!
The LGBT Resource Center will be hosting one (1) Safe Zone workshop each quarter for the 2018-2019 academic year. So, if you’re unable to make the Fall session, you may be able to attend the winter or spring sessions instead!
If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Program Coordinator, Ash Preston at: firstname.lastname@example.org
