Safe Zone is a symbol of the University of California, Irvine ’s commitment to diversity and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community on campus. Open to any campus affiliate, the program trains individuals to identify as Allies that are informed, supportive, and affirming of the LGBTQA community at UC Irvine. Safe Zone creates a more welcoming campus climate for LGBTQ and Ally faculty, staff, and students. Sponsored by the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Resource Center, the program fosters a community network that embraces sexual and gender diversity.
Safe Zone: Practice of Allyship Educational Workshops
The LGBTRC will be offering a new version of our Safe Zone: Practice of Allyship workshop this Fall 2020. To be serve the new virtual format anddistance learning, Safe Zone has been broken down into three workshops for any of the UCI community to join. While attending all is not mandatory, we highly encourage folx to do so in order to help create their practice of allyship for the LGBTQ+ Community and to gather all educational material and resources offered throughout the three workshops.
LGBTQ+ Vocabulary “This workshop is an introduction into the LGBTQ+ ‘alphabet soup,’ emphasizing important identities and experiences. Isms, Phobias, & Microaggressions “This workshop is an introduction into the experiences of oppression and privilege. Trends & LGBTQ+A (with LGBT Pro Staff) “This workshop shares the biggest trends happening with UCI students who identify as LGBTQ+.
